The Elderberry is a medium-size shrub common in the United States. It produces dark blue berries with many varieties being suitable for human consumption. It thrives along marshes and in riverbanks as well as in the understory of a woodland canopy.
The flowers of the Elderberry are edible and are often steeped with meant for a refreshing tea. A hearty addition to any lawn, it should be planted in spring after danger of frost. Weeds can be a problem but are easily controlled with proper mulching.
