The Yellow Pine, or Pinus ponderosa, is a large coniferous tree that can thrive in variable habitats. It is native to Canada and 16 western U.S. states. It has easily distinguishable bark that is yellow to orange-red in color, though in younger trees, the bark is blackish-brown. Bright green pine needles are characteristic of this tree.

Yellow Pines are the most widely distributed pine in the U.S. Some say it has no smell, while others claim it smells slightly of turpentine. It grows to be quite tall, reaching a towering height of 72 feet. Due to its stature and size, this tree makes an excellent embellishment to any park, large garden, or school yard!
