Blue Violets

Viola sororia, also known as blue-violet, is a low lying, flowering plant that blooms prolifically, providing delightful spring color for your garden. They are easy to grow, as they are adaptable to wet or dry climates and can flourish in sun or shade. This hearty little perennial exhibits broad, gently serrated, heart-shaped leaves, with delicate, five-petaled flowers, which may vary in colors from pale blue to deep indigo. Occasionally white or white flowers streaked with blue emerge from the thin stems, which are separate from their leaves. Blue-violet is native to the eastern United States and Canada and has been chosen as the representative state flower for Wisconsin, Rhode Island, New Jersey and Illinois. Because they grow low to the ground and spread with relative ease, the blue-violet is an ideal plant to line sidewalks and garden paths, providing months of delightful blossoms.
