Burning Bush - Euonymus Alatus

The Burning Bush is known for its fiery red color in autumn and is a perfect addition for gardeners who wish for an eruption of color to their landscape in the fall. During the spring and summer, it masquerades this color with lush, fresh leaves that welcome visitors with a bluish-green color.
It is naturally open and works wonderfully as a large bush in a big open area. However, it is also used well in flower beds and natural areas. It is a favorite for gardeners who want a thick luscious shrub along their walkways as a hedge. Even a novice gardener can feel at ease of the crimson-colored beauty, as requires minimal care because of its versatility and hardiness.
The bowing stems have clusters of pointed leaves that hang down from the branches. In May to June, tiny flowers will produce dangling red berries, which birds cannot resist. When autumn appears, the leaves transform from green to a brilliant red color, resembling a burning bush.
In planting the Burning Bush, the hole should be large enough to accommodate the entire root system to be covered. Loosen the roots and plant just low enough that the uppermost roots are covered with soil. The crown of the plant should be level with the ground. Press soil back firmly around the roots and plant, watering thoroughly. Once these steps are taken, there is little attention needed, unless there is little rain. In that case, a good soaking should do the trick. A slow release fertilizer can be applied, but only during the spring.
Because the Burning Bush has such a pleasing, natural shape, pruning is not necessary. However, it if you decide to do so, it must be done in early spring before leaves begin to appear. This will ensure that the bush maintains the size you desire for your location.
