Nine Bark Shrub- Physocarpus opulifolius

Ninebark shrubs are attractive plants that are relatively easy to grow. This plant will do well in almost every type of soil regardless of acidity or alkalinity, provided it is moist and has some drainage. This plant does well in nearly all conditions and is both drought resistant and hardy. In late May to early June, Nine Bark sports 2-inch clusters of white blossoms with purple stamens that attract butterflies. The seeds will attract birds as well. Twigs are reddish-brown, and the stems shed thin strips. Depending on the type, Nine Bark features clusters of leaves that vary from purple to lime green, and become yellow to orange in the fall. This shrub is an excellent choice for four-season appeal. Tolerant of almost all conditions, this plant requires very little care and is resistant to most disease and pests, including foraging deer. Due to the stable growth of branches, Nine Bark makes an excellent border for wind screening and privacy. Red berries provide a necessary food source for migratory birds in the winter. As a deciduous plant, the leaves are shed in the fall, but the peeling bark makes this an appealing winter shrub when coupled with the different fruit. This plant results in an attractive hedge for lining property borders and requires little to no care. With its ease of care, varied growing conditions, and charming four-season appeal, Nine Bark is a beautiful addition to most landscaping. This plant ships bare root for ease of planting and best health.
